1 July 2008
BRI and TAFE NSW have entered into a joint venture to provide training for security staff at no or minimal cost to staff.

The initiative comes about as a result of new legislation which requires security guards to upgrade their qualifications by November 2008.
"We have already completed our first class of over 50 guards" said Darren Eurlings BRI State Manager - NSW.
"Feedback has been really positive and our second class is due to start in the next few weeks where we will put through another 50 guards.
"The joint venture with NSW TAFE Ultimo Campus establishes our long term commitment to provide enhanced staff training. Ultimo was an obvious choice due to their experience and quality of teaching.
"This initiative is based upon up-skilling staff and providing a higher level of service for our clients. Additional training courses are being scheduled including a comprehensive 14 day Close Personal Protection course. In the vast majority of cases training for both existing and new employees is free.
"It is our intention that every staff member in NSW will go through TAFE Ultimo" said Darren.
